Melissa Morrison graduated in 2003 from the Nova Scotia College of Art & Design, with a BFA -majoring in Jewellery Design and Metalsmithing.

In 2018, after spending years honing her skills as a goldsmith for several boutique jewellery stores, Melissa opened her own studio under the name of Melissa Morrison Jewellery. Her jewellery ranges from small batch production to one-of-a-kind commissions. All pieces are designed and crafted by Melissa on site, using traditional and modern metalsmithing techniques.

The MMJ studio is located in the small seaside village of Petite Riviere, Nova Scotia. It is a place where beautiful things are imagined, cultivated, and created. Working under the mantra, ‘Explore, Create, Connect’, Melissa describes her designs as being wild hearted, modern heirlooms with meaning beyond adornment.
Inspirations for her designs are often sparked by the spirit of a distinct moment, interpretations of natural forms, or based on intuition, resulting in an unusual organic sense of beauty. Many of the textures and nuances in Melissa’s jewellery are the reaction to a direct hands-on process, which is achieved by either carving wax or mark making in metal by hammering and embossing. 

Melissa is living and working on the beautiful South Shore with her husband and raising their 3 kids to swim in the sea, soak up the fresh air, and rejoice in the small things.

She is a member of the Society of North American Goldsmiths, Co-Adorn Art Jewellery, Lunenburg Art Gallery Society, Secretary for the Petite Riviere Art and Craft Society, and a volunteer fire fighter with the Petite Riviere Volunteer Fire Department.
